A number by itself can raise more questions than it answers. Numbers need context to provide meaning. Nowhere is this more true than when attempting to assess an institution’s Fair Lending performance. If, for example, 8 percent of the loans in one of the counties your institution operates in were to minority borrowers, should you breathe a sigh of relief or press the panic button?
In an effort to answer that question, some institutions will spend thousands upon thousands in costly software packages that bill themselves as easy to use, but are typically so complex that even the most well-intentioned end-users eventually throw in the towel or move on. Others will purchase costly reports from outside vendors that are inflexible and don’t cost-effectively accommodate the nuances and multiple iterations that may be needed to find the reasonable context for the institution’s performance.
In this 90-minute webinar, we’ll get specific. Using common software programs and free resources online, and without requiring you to have more than a rudimentary knowledge of Excel, we’ll show you step by step:

  • How to analyze your lending performance;
  • How to find data for your peers or proxy data;
  • How to pull that data down and put it in a workable format;
  • How to show that data in comparison to your lending data;
  • How to provide further market share context for your performance by pulling down deposit data;
  • How to look at various statistically valid approaches for analyzing data to find one that works best for your institution;
  • How to establish a baseline that you can use as a benchmark against future periodic analyses.

Due to the nature of this webinar, all registered attendees will have replay access rights for 30 days following the completion of the webinar so that you can review the techniques demonstrated again at your leisure.
Even if you choose to use a software package or outside vendors to conduct your analysis, the knowledge you gain in this webinar will provide you with a solid background to understand what their reports are showing you and whether there are other alternative approaches that might be better suited to your institution’s circumstances, whether it be analyzing consumer lending, business lending, or specific product lines that may be a target for regulatory scrutiny.
